This PV system is loaded!  It’s a 4kW system made up of 18 Sharp 224 watt modules and a Xantrex 6000 watt, 48 volt grid tied inverter with a battery backup.  This system will offset approximately 2/3 of the family’s monthly bill by producing 4,709kW hours per year.  This customer chose a larger inverter to allow for an additional 9 modules to be installed at a future date if necessary.

This 80 or 100 gallon solar hot water tank features 4″ of insulation which keeps standby temperature losses below 1 degree per hour.  It has 2 heat exchangers and can be setup to work with an existing oil boiler as the backup system.  An 80 gallon tank works for a 2-3 member household and a 100 gallon tank works for a 4-5 member household with up to 70% of the hot water derived from solar.  The remaining hot water use is then covered by your back-up system.

The University of Maine recently hired us to create and install a budget savvy system  for the Orono campus.  The system is being used for educational purposes by the university’s engineering department to help with students’ understanding of current solar energy systems.  The installation consisted of an east to west photovoltaic tracking system with six modules, designed to follow the path of the sun throughout the day.

By using micro-inverters, we were able to add an additional feature on the system that would track the individual performance of each module.  Because the system was grid tied, the engineering department will be able to utilize the 4.3kW of electricity generated daily.
